Paramedic Expert Witness

I am a Consultant Paramedic currently employed by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) NHS Trust which is one of the largest ambulance services in the country employing over 5000 staff covering a population of 7m and undertaking 1.3 million 999 calls per year.

My job plan comprises of 10 sessions, 5 of which are spent delivering direct patient care providing assessment and treatment to serious medical emergencies including heart attack, stroke, respiratory conditions and obstetric conditions and serious traumatic injuries arising from RTCs, assaults, falls from height and industrial accidents. As a Consultant I have an expanded scope of practice with additional clinical skills and wider drug formulary. The remaining 5 sessions are split between providing real-time advice to frontline paramedics, the supervision of 46 Advanced Paramedics and 7 Consultant Paramedics and contributing to research, development and education.

I have held the qualification of Paramedic since 1987 and I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I am one of only a small number of Paramedics in the UK to hold a Consultant post.

• Member of the NICE Trauma Guideline Development Group (NICE 2013 - 2015)
• Member of the Cheshire & Mersey Major Trauma Operational Delivery Network Board (ODN 2013 - present)
• Member of the National Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee Clinical Guidelines Group (JRCALC 2004 - present)
• Member of the North West Clinical Leaders Network (CLN 2007- present)

I hold a Master’s Degree with distinction in Advanced Clinical Practice and a Diploma in Immediate Medical Care with the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). I am also an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh).

I have extensive medico-legal experience with the production of over 600 reports. I have undertaken training as an expert witness which includes assessment by examination and hold the Bond Solon/Cardiff University Expert Witness Certificate.
